STRENGTHENED TIMING BELT |
|
|
|
|
|
Although the timing belt is a common part of the engine, not all OEM and aftermarket timing belts are designed to be used on highly tuned turbo powered engines. The durability of the timing belt is greatly reduced with performance engines running at high RPM with aggressive camshafts, increased torque coming from the valve springs, extreme heat conditions from the larger turbos and more.
The TOMEI POWERED strengthened timing belt has been designed and manufactured with a Kevlar fiber (Aramid) belt surface, H-NB rubber and the glass cable core for increased tensile strength and durability. This results in a highly durable timing belt that will ensure to keep everything in check even under extreme conditions. |

BELT GUIDE |

SECURELY
HOLDS DOWN THE LENGTHY EJ TIMING
BELT TO PREVENT PULLEY DISENGAGEMENT.
Horizontally
opposed engines combust structurally
at 180 degrees; increasing the
chances of the camshafts not
performing at their maximum
lift. Because of this, installing
high lift camshafts in these
engines may create unnecessary
belt vibration leading to the
pulley spinning off the rotating
assembly. Without the pulley
in its rightful place, the valves
and the pistons are guaranteed
to make contact in this situation.
The manufacturer had created
a component to eliminate this
costly damage, called the belt
guide. However, this belt guide
is constructed from thin sheet
metal which lack strength and
rigidity with overall attributes
that simply cannot securely
maintain the belt and pulley
at times.
Tomei Powered has constructed
a beefy belt guide cut straight
from aluminum with an extended
length to securely apply more
tension to the timing belt.
This product comes in handy
when immediate changes in torque
are experienced by the engine,
eliminating belt whip. The Anodized
surface creates a smooth and
precise belt track as well.

We chose to use Phosphor Bronze (Cn-Sn-P alloy) to make our Valve Guides, for its highly tensile and superior heat transferring ability, which is vital in high power and high RPM outputting engines. Since race engines these days require more power at higher RPM use , these engines now experience more extreme heat conditions. These conditions will increase the deterioration rate on these valve train related components. The Phosphor Bronze material has exceptionally lower friction and the best possible clearances can be maintained, which will reduce the stress on the valve train assembly, prevent seizures and cracking under high stress loads.
Still since the product will be used for extreme conditions, it will still require additional regular maintenance and periodical checks. The product can wear out faster under certain conditions. Some examples of the abnormal conditions are as follows.
ĦThe rocker arm type assemblies will apply more lateral pressure, which will increase the wear rate. If the stem wall of the valve is rough, it will also contribute to the increased wear rate.
ĦUsing high lift, aggressive camshafts will also increase the wear rate.
ĦExcessive buildup of carbon will also hinder performance and increase wear rate. When there's a small opening at the end, it will increase the carbon buildup rate as a funnel effect.
ĦThe results from Valve Spring surging will cause the Valve to move on an angle. This will cause both ends to open up and create deformation. Then carbon can enter the valve guides more which will increase the wear rate.
ĦA defective seat cut. When the seat cut's centerline across the main 45 degree face is offline from the valve stems centerline by more than 0.01mm, this can cause increased abnormal wear rate.
ĦIf the clearance is not within the correct 0.03-0.04mm range. The Valve will rub against the guides inner wall, this degree angle in relation to the seat cut will cause it to shift by 0.01mm more than the clearance values. The guide will take the lateral pressure point and open up the opening. The buildup of carbon will increase in the newly formed gaps.
ĦA worn out used Valve. It's possible to cut down by using the part that has not worn out the stem when changing to a high lift cams. The guides can wear out when the inappropriate clearances are made. (About 0.01mm out of clearance).
ĦThe Valve design is defective. The difference from the dilatability and the guide being worn out abnormally is when the valve that is made with different alloys, will contribute with a faster deterioration.

The function of which valve sheet
is asked, is maintaining air tightness
with a valve, and generally wear resistance
is required. However, with the engine
used by high rotation and high load,
the cooling performance of a valve
sheet becomes very important further,
and it is greatly concerned with an
engine output. When engine is high
rotation and high load, it is impossible
to achieve high output from the engine
if cooling performance of the cylinder
is low and knock limit does not become
high, since the temperature of the
circumference of a cylinder head rises
unusually. In racing engine that temperature
needed to be carefully controlled,
how much you can cool the circumference
of the sheet ring is the important
issue, and the technique of using
high heat conduction metal, such as
copper for a sheet ring, has been
taken. Copper has one of the highest
thermal conductivities through all
metal that enables receiving heat
from cylinder and cool it down quickly
by transmit the heat to the cylinder
head. (Degree of heat conduction:
1.silver, 2.copper, 3.gold, 4.aluminium,
... 10. cast iron - STD). We select
beryllium copper alloy (BeCu) that
can secure mechanical intensity most
in the copper alloy, which has ideal
fatigue resistance and wear resistance
while securing a preeminent cylinder
cooling performance. We named it "bery-ring"
and applied to the high performance
turbo charged engine. of market share
in the world with beryllium copper
so that we can offer this super-high
grade material beryllium in affordable
price.
