In order to secure the performance required of head gaskets, such as cooling, rigidity, and sealing, it is necessary to strengthen combination of a cylinder head and a cylinder block. However, in combination with a common bolt and nut, no matter what strengthen bolt it may used, bolting power concentrates on from third mountains to the 1st mountain of the screw, and the total bolting power cannot be increased beyond a certain value. Moreover, excessive stress is concentrated and may damage the bolt. Stud bolt, on the other hand, is applied dynamic design to its threading so that the bolting force is dispersed to all the screw threads and mighty bolting power is generated.

A common weak point found when tuning the 4AG engine is from the crank cab bolts being insufficient to cope with the high stress loads from extreme engine speeds. The weak crank cab bolts can result in the stock crank cab bolts breaking or excessive loads on the bearings causing rapid irregular wearing. In the worse case scenario this can lead to engine failure. The TOMEI ladders also aid further in increased block rigidness to help support the crank cab bolts and maintaining the reliability of the bearings for longer engine life and increased durability for constant high end performance use. In the 4AG engine which assures high revolution conversion, it is the item which cannot be missed. When using the high lift profile camshafts for high RPM use the stress loads on the cam caps will be extreme and much higher than what the engineers had originally designed the stock studs for. These bolts are designed and made from Chrome Moly Alloy which will allow you to use with cam lift profiles of up to 12.0mm and for up to 10,000 RPM safely. When using the high lift camshafts engine builders of the past had to depend on the stock bolts. Running the risk of the incorrect strength of the studs, nuts screw holes were always a worry. But now with these Tomei studs the extra strength will allow for pushing your engines performance to new levels for bigger power gains.

Extreme engine speeds with the increase of cylinder pressure and power will add an increased burden on the conrod bolts. The increased stroke length in most performance engines and increased piston speeds will also add more stress loads to the conrod bolts. Since the common weak points of the connecting rods are usually the conrod bolts itself. Upgrading the conrod bolts to a stronger type will usually resolves most problems by greatly increasing the reliability of the connecting rod without having had to spend more on a complete conrod set. These conrod bolts are designed and made by forged SCM440 material followed but additional surface heat treatment for added strengthening.

When needing to maintain the sealing characteristics and engine rigidity of the head gasket by the firm holds of the cylinder head to the block. Maintaining the perfect seal at higher pressures that are found with performance engines usually puts extreme stress loads on these washers which run the risk of deforming and or damaging the stock washers. The stock washers are not always a perfectly flat surface so any signs of warping or uneven surfaces on the washers can cause the bolts/nuts to loose the correct tension when under excessive loads. The TOMEI strengthened washer is made with SCM435 material which helps with guaranteeing the correct surface pressure at all times.

The vibrations from the crankshaft that occurs with the sudden engagement of the clutch at high RPM are transmitted to the flywheel. The flywheel bolts cannot withstand the vibrations from the flywheel in which can cause the bolts to loosen or break. These TOMEI flywheel bolts are made from high intensity forged material of 19000psi (1336kgf/cm2 and especially heat treated) its tensile strength greatly exceeds the factory genuine bolts. Also with the 12 head design helps making it easier to tighten its torque to exceed the normal bolt torque of 115Nm (11.7kgfm). A must have item for all 4AG owners.
